The backward and weak section of the society in India has the power to destroy the state peace for 6 long days. They have the strength to stop 76 trains daily. They can face the police force easily. They think that they can snatch their right(!) . They are backward. Just wait for the well developed sects of the nation to come front and we will witness a nation of our dreams. We are really lucky to be in such a nation.
When I look at the whole scenario it seems to me like a herd of sheep following blindly their master, unaware of the fact whether he is going to feed them or butcher them all. Actually, it does not matter to the master, he will gain out of it anyways. He has tossed a coin which has "Head" on both. I don't know about the figures, but I don't think there would be any middle class or rich society people in the mob, who in fact are the real beneficiaries of any SC or ST class. More than 30 people died in the agitation last year and there are comparable figures this time too. Leader has announced that this time it will be big. This means that there are many more yet to be killed.
I wish I had the courage enough to go those who call themselves as fighters of the sect, what are they hoping to come out of this all. What does the father thinks who has the dead body of his son in front of his eyes and is not able to do the last rituals. Their best case as seems to me is nothing. Even if they are given the reservation of 6% that they are demanding, what will be the effect of that on the people involved in the agitation. People who are not educated enough to read and write. The actual benefit, if they get reservation, will be riped by those who are sitting safe and secure in their beds enjoying the hot summer in their air conditioners and not by those who are forced to sit on the railway line for 6 days. It is like the game of chess where pawns sacrifice for the welfare or the king. The difference is only that these pawn are not even paid.

Now there is another angle of the triangle. The most wise and cunning of them all, The Leader. He has played a game in which he is sure of victory. He has recently announced, "We will form our own party, and then we will get our rights", whose right? Is the question to be asked, Leader will surely get the returns of his hard work. State government has completed about four years, and so what a good time to go for the "Andolan"(!).
But its actually not the leader who is to be blamed, its the mob. When you are careless enough to leave your 500 rupee note on the road, you have no right to curse the one who takes it. We are required to use our basic intelligence and if we falter at that also, then we are wrong at complaining about the one who cheated us.

Awesome blog, man!...just to let you know...i was also planning to start a blog this summer and one of the few good lines that i wanted to include have already been used now...
1. We will prove that we are backward in each and every aspect
2. India is probably the only nation in the world, where people fight to be called as backward
nice improvement in english...it shows...though i'd like to pinpoint some things that i know for sure have improved, lets leave that to be discussed sometime later..i'd post another detailed comment regarding the issue (i have sth in my mind rt now :)) later
I feel that lack of education is the root cause of all this trouble. If these people were educated, they would have other opportunities to spend their time, they would get jobs without reservation and they would understand logic so that they would stop calling themselves backward. Govt should force everyone to study till 5th.
nice blog .. there is a flipside as well Manpreet. A humanistic view would be :
Also look at it as an attempt to get more opportunities. And with India as a whole shining and marching forward, if certain section of the society wishes to be a part of the progress as well (even at the cost of being called "backward"), it is reasonable on there part to take the so called easier way. Clearly our constitution has provisions for it. But on a practical note, everyone would seek the "backward" title one day and the one s who actually are may become "super backward".
@Sahil this is a good direction to think that they want to be a part of the developed nation. But the way they are employing for this is not correct. Way back in 1981 also they demanded for the ST status which was straight forward rejected by the then government.
Also I wanted to make a point that the actual fighters will not be the gainers, many of them may not even know the implications of reservation issue, but they just following the herd.
And also in no time the general category will be most backward :P
This is such a sad issue...while we are being taught to 'strive for excellence' people are laying down their lives to be termed 'backward'
I am in Rajasthan currently and these stupid people have done what not...blocked and broken railway tracks, hunger strikes, 'sabhas' etc. etc.
I wish and I so wish Hitler comes back once for all such uprisings and handles it all his way!
u know, the end-of-story-way!
Reservation was accomodated as an initial jump for the backwards as a 10 year plan...but politics kept it going...
I would not say that reservation only cooks the leader's chicken...it does help the mob too...ok, thesse are tumultous times but once the chaos settles down, they'd certainly reap the benefits of reservation...
Though I agree with the general point of the blog but still at one point you wrote "if we falter at that also, then we are wrong at complaining about the one who cheated us"...you are mistaken in identifying yourself and readers of this blog as a part of the mob...and the real mob would not go against something which in spite of your exaggeration does help them...
So, are we not guilty? We, the elite (not the mob) are guilty of another charge...this messed up state of politics in india...most of the politics is concentrated in the hands of these reserved categories and hence these laws...we don't even vote!
besides, chk this out...

would give you some more insight into the matter...
The statement "If we falter at that also then we have no right to complain about some one who has cheated us", is a general statement that applies to every one. The motive behind writing this line was that we only are responsible for what happens to us. The mob would certainly not go against what benefits them, the point i wanted to make was that sometimes at happens at leaders go in front of the mod and try to influence them on the basis of comments like, "This is total injustice against our caste and we won't have it". A congress leader just announced two days back, "I will do whatever is necessary for my 'Samaj'." How in a secular nation one is allowed to make a comment like this. It is due to people like this these mobs are generated.
I just wanted to make a point that people (mob) don't think much when it comes to their caste pride.
Nicely written on a nice topic. Unfortunately, all these things have got so complicated that there is no single reason that can explain why this has gone wrong or why that has happened.
Our politics has become so dirty and selfish that the only thing that the "Leader" cares about is himself. At least most of them do. Just take the issue of fuel price hike. The price of crude oil has increased by around 100%, but all the parties roundly condemned the government for effecting what is IMO only a modest hike. Quite frankly, I am disgusted with most of the news that I hear or read, and I am no longer interested in it as I was before.
It will probably be better to stay in my bed and enjoy my life while I can rather than worry about it all. Hopefully my comment is not too big ;)
